Station 5 – Wedge Mat

Beginner Skill – Mountain Climber

  1. Stand with your back against the mat with your feet together
  2. Put both hands on the dots in front of you while keeping your arms straight and strong
  3. Walk your feet up the mat one at a time until both legs are straight with your feet together 
  4. Keep your head off the ground, look at your toes, and count to three
  5. Lower your legs one at a time until both feet are back on the ground
    • Spotter’s note: encourage them to raise their feet higher and higher by putting your hands where their feet should go. Also, help them lift their head off the ground if they bend their arms and their head touches the ground. (Video included)

Advanced Skill – Mountain Climber Walks

  1. Stand with your back against the mat with your feet together
  2. Put your hands on the ground in front of you while keeping your arms straight and strong
  3. Walk your feet up the mat one at a time 
  4. Keep your head off the ground, look at your toes, and walk on your hands while moving your hands and feet until you reach the other side
  5. Lower your legs one at a time until both feet are back on the ground
