Station 1 – Forward & Backward Rolls

Beginner Skill – Forward Rolls

  1. Stand in a straddle at the top of the mat with your arms up, facing downhill
  2. Put your hands down while looking at your belly button
  3. Push off of the mat with your feet and roll forward
  4. Stand up with your feet together and arms up
    • Spotter’s note: to help them roll, lift up on their hips so that added pressure isn’t put on their neck while learning to roll

Advanced Skill – Backward Rolls

  1. Stand at the top of the mat with your feet together, while facing uphill with your arms up
  2. Squat down on the mat while lowering your hands to the mat by your ears
  3. Push onto the mat with both hands while rolling backwards with your knees to your chest
  4. Stand up with your arms above your head and feet together
    • Spotter’s note: to help them roll, lift up on their hips so that added pressure isn’t put on their neck while learning to roll
