Gem City’s Level 7 Team Set to Compete at State

Gem City’s level 7 competitive gymnasts Carlie Anders, 14 from Quincy, and Lindyn Lair, 10 of Quincy, are preparing to compete at USAG State on March 28-30 in Dekalb, Illinois!

Qualifying for Competition

To earn their spot, each gymnast needed to achieve an all-around score of at least 34.50 during the regular season. Since December, Carlie and Lindyn have participated in up to five invitational competitions across Illinois and Missouri, while managing their school and personal commitments.

Their training schedule is demanding – 4-5 practices per week throughout the year. This requires significant dedication, especially while balancing academic responsibilities and maintaining a social life.

Looking Ahead

The State meet serves as a qualifying event for USAG Region 5 Regionals, scheduled for April 25-27 in Tallmadge, Ohio. For these young athletes, the competition represents an opportunity to demonstrate the consistent effort and skill they’ve developed over the past year.

Their journey highlights the discipline and perseverance required in competitive gymnastics, where progress is often incremental and hard-earned.

Gymnastics team coaches include Jacob Huff, Hope Huff, Sarah Shumake, and Rylee Mellon. You can read more about Gem City’s gymnastics program and find our meet schedule here.
