Gem City’s Level 3 & 9 gymnasts had a great meet season with 11 athletes qualifying to advance to the USAG Illinois State Championships. The meet will be hosted by Gymnastics, Etc. on March 17-19 in Bloomington, Illinois.
Advancing to State competitions is not easy. Each Level 9 athlete had to earn a 32.00 All-Around score at a qualifying invitational earlier in the season, and Level 3 athletes had to earn a 34.00 All-Around score. Our Level 3 girls attended five invitationals this season throughout Illinois and Missouri. Our Level 9 girls attended up to six invitationals this season throughout Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky.
Our Level 3 athletes practice up to three times a week and then usually attend one-on-one lessons throughout the season to perfect certain skills. Level 9 athletes practice up to five times a week.
Training in gymnastics often means working through times when you can’t see your progress. We’re proud of the hard work each athlete has put into their own talent and growth during the year.
Gymnastics team coaches include Jacob Huff, Hope Huff, Sarah Shumake, and Ashley Schralla. You can read more about Gem City’s gymnastics program and find our meet schedule here.
