Gem City Athletes Win Big in 2018 Seasons
Highlights from Gem City’s Nationally Ranked Gymnastics, Tumbling, and All Star Cheer Programs
The gymnastics, tumbling, and all star cheer programs at Gem City produced many wins during their respective competitive seasons. We are beyond proud of each athlete’s hard work and dedication. These victories represent years of work by the athletes and by our coaches as they’ve developed Gem City’s team and recreational class programs.

Tumbling Team
- 36 2018 USTA Nationals Qualifiers
- 2018 USTA Southern Illinois Graduating Senior Scholarship Award recipient Maggie Schutte
- 2018 USTA Southern Illinois Marge Mazzotti Memorial Award Coach of they Year recipient Zeke Cernea
- Eight 2018 USTA Illinois State Champions – Maggie Schutte, Rylee Mellon, John Bohnenblust, Randle Guymon, Sydney Sherman, Maurice Silas, Olivia Slater, Eric Smith
- Three 2018 USTA National Champions – Maggie Schutte, Olivia Slater, Sydney Sherman
All-Star Cheer Squad
- 2018 US Finals Cheer & Dance Nationals Qualifier
2018 US Finals Cheer & Dance Level 2 5th Place Squad at Nationals
Gymnastics Team
- Level 3 – 25 athletes advanced to USAG Illinois State Championships
- Level 4 – 10 athletes advanced to USAG Illinois State Championships
- Level 5 – 4 athletes advanced to USAG Illinois State Championships
- Kielyn Ott – Vault State Champion for USAG Level 5
- Level 8 – 3 athletes advanced to USAG Illinois State
- 2 of those athletes advanced to USAG Regionals
- Both athletes – Haley Woodyard and Ava Winking were both part of Team Illinois at Regionals – earning the top eight all-around scores at State they were placed on Team Illinois for Regionals.
