Senior Spotlight: Maurice Silas
Maurice Silas is a senior at Quincy Senior High School on Gem City’s Tumbling Team. He is 17 and started tumbling in first grade. He’s competitively tumbled for five years. Maurice fills the gym with kindness and a positive attitude. We will miss him!
In three years he moved up two levels – novice to sub-advanced, which is what level he is now. He earned second place in his first Junior Olympics competition as a Novice. Maurice’s second year at Junior Olympics, he placed fourth.
Not confined to tumbling, Maurice also runs track and field and loves it. He’s been running track since the 7th grade. He is a leader in the triple jump since his freshman year.
Maurice is active in several other activities. He plays trumpet in marching band as well, and was a drum major this year. He’s in concert choir, madrigal choir, show choir, jazz band, concert band, concert orchestra, and he’s been in four musicals. He’s also close to receiving his Eagle Scout status in the Boy Scouts of America.
His will attend Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, majoring in graphic design with an emphasis in animation. He’s considering a minor in music as well. Maurice will still play the trumpet while in college. He plans to also participate in the track team.
