Gymnastics Classes

Summer 2017

Gem City offers instruction for all four events of women’s gymnastics—vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. Gymnastics is a sport that requires you develop physical strength, flexibility, power, agility, coordination, and balance to do well. It’s one of the most watched sports aired during the Summer Olympic Games. We love it!

Adult Gymnastics

(No Experience or Commitment Required, Ages 18+, Co-ed)

Gem City offers an hour and fifteen minute class in an open gym format. We begin with a skills based warmup then participants are free to work toward their individual goals. Participant experience levels range from absolutely none to former competitive gymnasts and tumblers.

Every Wednesday from 7:15-8:30; $9

Level 1

(No Experience Required, Girls Ages 6-10)

This one hour class is an introductory class on basic gymnastic techniques on vault, bars, beam, and floor. Special emphasis in this class is given to the instruction of basic floor skills, like bridges, handstands, cartwheels, and roundoffs. These skills must be well developed before advancing to the level 2 class. Near the end of each session we have in-class evaluations to better inform each family on the progression of their athlete, and to inform the athlete of the class they are eligible to enroll for moving forward.

Level 2

(Successful Completion of Level 1)

With the successful completion of level 1 or prior experience, level 2 contains an increased focus on vault, bars, and beam. This one hour and 15 minute class strives toward learning a handstand-bridge kickover, pullovers and backhip circles on bars, and handstands on the balance beam. These skills are required before advancing to level 3. Near the end of each session we have in-class evaluations to better inform each family on the progression of their athlete, and to inform the athlete of the class they are eligible to enroll for moving forward.

Level 3

(Successful Completion of Level 2)

This is an hour and thirty minute class requiring the successful completion of level 2. This classes works towards shoot throughs and glide swings on bars; a handstand flat fall on vault; a scale, handstand step down, and side handstand dismount on beam; and a strong standing back handspring, connected roundoff back handspring with spot on floor. Near the end of each session we have in-class evaluations to better inform each family on the progression of their athlete, and to inform the athlete of the class they are eligible to enroll for moving forward.

Pre Team

Pre Team prepares an athlete to join the competitive gymnastics team. This level requires the successful completion of level 3 or can be entered by invitation. Near the end of each session we have in-class evaluations to better inform each family on the progression of their athlete, and to inform the athlete of the class they are eligible to enroll for moving forward.
