Fun at tumbling team meets!

Gem City Tumbling Team heads to Nationals 🏆

This year 23 members qualified and are advancing to USTA Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin, from June 20-24.

We’re so proud of the hard work and dedication these athletes have shown during the course of the 2016-2017 season. Their head coach is Zeke Cernea with additional coaching from Laci Heller, Lydia Schrand, and Cameron Shreve.

To qualify for Nationals, each athlete has to place among the top 15 in their competitive group at United States Tumbling Association’s (USTA) State Championships. The state meet occurred April 23, in Edwardsville, with 32 Gem City tumblers competing. Twenty-nine of our 32 athletes qualified for Nationals. Gem City’s Tumbling Team competed in six invitational meets this season in Illinois.

For those that may be unfamiliar with power tumbling, it is a sport where athletes propel themselves forward down an elevated runway while executing a series of acrobatic skills. (Think flips!) Each tumblers completes two passes, or series of skills. Depending on the level, each pass contains either five or eight skills.
